Why We Do What We Do

Our reasons for becoming a financial professional are deeply personal. We repeatedly witnessed friends and family members struggling to find the help they needed to map out their financial future. They didn’t think that they could benefit from the help of a financial advisor because they didn’t believe they had the money to justify it – but unfortunately, that is just a common misconception in the modern world. At Belay Financial Services, we believe that everyone can benefit from receiving solid, professional advice from a financial advisor regardless of their financial situation.

We are confident that our team’s understanding of personal finance combined with professional training can help people better prepare themselves for their future. After several years of experience in the business, we have developed a reputation for educating individuals in a sincere, easy-to-understand manner so that our clients can grasp personal finance and use those concepts to pursue their financial goals. We pride ourselves on our commitment to our community, and we want nothing more than to see you succeed in your financial future.

Our approach adds perspective to all that we do, and we work hard to provide increased benefits to our clients.

As a Financial Advisor at Belay Financial Services, I specialize in providing holistic financial planning and advisory services to anyone that finds themselves in need of securing their financial future. I completely understand that most people have neither the time nor the desire to develop a financial plan with an advisor, and as a result, I strive to provide them with a variety of resources that can save them time by getting their financial needs taken care of efficiently.

I have served as a financial advisor for the past 15 years, and prior to that, I worked in the banking and consumer lending industries for 11 years. I am licensed for accident and health insurance, life and variable life insurance, and insurance for variable annuities. I also currently hold Series 7 & 66 securities licenses. Additionally, I have been an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) since 2013. I received my bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Utah in 1996.

Before the financial crisis in 2008, I was primarily underwriting loan applications in the mortgage lending division of a bank, and I soon began to notice that the vast majority of applicants we saw had high amounts of debt, but they did not have much money invested in savings or retirement accounts. People were indeed buying their dream home, but I could see from their monthly debt payments that there was not much disposable income for emergencies or unexpected noteworthy events in life. So, I decided to change careers and go into financial advising to encourage people to protect, save, and invest for their futures. In the past, people saved for their dreams, and I believe that we intend on borrowing too much in the modern day, and with such a heavy debt load, it’s difficult to fully enjoy those dreams. With planning, there is a happy middle ground to avoid that difficulty and truly be able to appreciate what you save for.

I currently live in my hometown of Bloomington, Minnesota, with my two young children, Fiona and Elliott. Together, we enjoy playing hockey, skiing, playing soccer, mountain biking, and relaxing in a cabin with our new black lab puppy, Kota. I also personally enjoy pheasant hunting, water skiing, and helping my kids with their homework.
